Rockland is a bilingual community located about 25 kilometers east of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, part of the city of Clarence-Rockland. Rockland has a population of 9,210.
In 1868 a sawmill was built here by William Cameron Edwards on the Ottawa River, followed by a link to the Grand Trunk Railway in 1888. Edwards, who held timber rights in the area and was also the first postmaster, named the area for the rocky nature of its landscape.
Rockland is a rapidly growing community, and is constantly adding new retailers and businesses to service the community. Rockland is now home to major chains like Boston Pizza, Canadian Tire, Food Basic,Giant Tiger, Independent Grocers, Marks Work Wearhouse, Shoppers Drug Mart, Staples Business Depot, TSC and Wal-Mart Supercenter. In addition to the many great local restaurants, Rockland has recently added Broadway Bar and Grill and a River Rock Inn, a luxurious hotel and conference centre.
